The Iseo
Lake is surely the most picturesque one of the Lombardian lakes, for its
unpolluted nature and its small and ancient habitations where one can
admire palaces, churches and castles built hundreds of years ago. In the
centre of the lake lies the biggest lake island of Europe called
Montisola with next to it the two small islands Loreto and San Paolo.
One can reach Montisola by swift boats that depart from almost every
locality around the lake. Zone, the village known for the
natural pyramids of earth, can be reached from Marone, taking a road
with countless hairpin curves. The pyramids of earth are a true attraction
for tourists; they are enormous natural spire roofs of earth that sustain
big massifs.
Of
great interest is Le Torbiere of Iseo or The Nature
Reserve of the Torbiere: a fen-land with mirrors of water where many
species of birds live in full freedom. A few hundred metres from the main
entrance of the reserve we find the Monastery of San Pietro in
Lamosa of the XIV - XV Century.
To be visited is the territory of the Franciacorta and its wine
cellars where a wine is produced that has always been enjoying a high
reputation all over the world. The Franciacorta is also a territory of
very ancient castles. In a lot of them stayed well-known characters like
for example Dante Alighieri. Interesting is the territory of the Valle
Camonica, a valley that is situated so high that it reaches
even 3000 metres above sea level, therefore a true paradise for those
fascinated by winter sports. In the territories
Capo di
Ponte,
Nardo
and Cilimbergo we can find engravings made in the
Bronze era. |
